FLOOD PLAIN slime alert!

In the most stunning act of slimy manipulative behavior, the Page County Planning Commission brought the proposed flood plain ordinance back to life tonight, and gave it back to the very same subcommittee to do a "revision."
Tonight's agenda made no reference to the flood plain. In fact, only a few minor zoning issues were on the agenda. Page County Watch had five people present, just in case.
It was lucky we were there.
Chairman John Woodward was absent. Commissioner Dot Donato was chairing the meeting. After all business was attended to, Ms. Donato said she had a "point of order". Her point of order was that she wanted to change her vote from April 23, which ended debate on the proposed flood plain ordinance. Then either Newton or DeSerio, I was too blinded by rage to tell which one, made a motion that they should bring the proposed flood plain ordinance back alive, and give it back TO THE SAME PEOPLE, to make revisions. This motion passed.

Since the Board of Supervisors TOOK NO ACTION in the May 15 meeting when we were all there, Attorney George Shanks sanctioned, hopefully only through temporary insanity, this action to bring the Proposed Flood Plain Ordinance back alive and give it back to the same people.
In the Public Comments section, Alice Richmond (me) pointed out that this item was not on the agenda and should not have been brought up with out public notice. Mr. J D Cave also made a public comment, I'm sorry I can't exactly remember what he said, but he was on our side. I think he said something with the word slimy in it.
I was going to use this space to bring up the June 1 "Meet the Republican Candidates" meeting at 7 p.m. at Browns Restaurant. This would be a good place to make sure that John Rust and Gerald Cubbage, who are up for election, know what the public thinks about how the Supervisors and the Planning Commission are acting.
Planning Commissioner Eldridge, who is Chairman of the Committee that wrote this, named a date and a time for the first meeting of the subcommittee, which he said would be no more than 90 minutes long. If citizens would like to know when these subcommittee meetings are held, I would imagine they will have to call the county office and ask. I won't be posting them on the Page County Watch website.
At this time, I will no longer be attending Planning Commission meetings.

You can't quit now the pc needs you and all the others who have produced so much information on this issue. There are some on the commission who will fight this and they need your support. Does anyone happen to have a Roberts Rules 10th ed and perhaps have it turned to p395 I 9-12?? (I hope that's right)
Anonymous, I don't have it now, but I'm sure in the morning I'll get it. Here's the deal. There are five human beings with a brain on the Planning Commission. Their names are Bosley, Short, Hammel, Woodward, and Judd. Apparently, all we need is to have one of them absent, and we get an "idiot" vote.
The other five have lost their marbles. I don't know what has gotten into their punkin heads, but it isn't IQ. It seems they are becoming "true believers" in a cause, and the cause is deeply harmful to the people who live in this county. They seem to think they are "saving and protecting" something. It's gotta be the Trees, because it sure as H isn't the people who live here.
I have a person from Page County visiting this website every 45 minutes, and some of them print the pages out and pass it around to their neighbors. They email me. They call me (even though my number is unlisted, they get it from somebody who knows somebody).
We will move this fight FROM the Planning Commission TO the Board of Supervisors, and we will d@#$% well make it clear that we will be a force in the elections.
But, no, Anonymous, I will not abandon those five people on the Planning Commission who have two brains to rub together and can't figure out what the f is going on here any more than I can. I just may have to approach things somewhat differently.

It would seem what was done a month ago was undone last night using a fine point of parliamentary procedure to continue to drag this dead horse around the corral. Once again the trust of the citizens of this county in its government has been misplaced. One can only hope that Ms. Donato slept well last night. Unfortunately, she must face herself this morning and realize her betrayal of the well being of this county and its people. How very sad!
The phone number listed on the Official Page county government site for Dot Donato is no longer valid and information says there is no listing for her anywhere. Does anyone have her current phone number, either home or at her realty office?

MORE CORRUPTION IN THE COURTHOUSE Yes I said more corruption in the courthouse, just when we thought things couldn’t get any worse in Page county they did, at a planning commission meeting Tuesday night May 29th, a group of unconventional planners attempted to carry out a military coo and breath new life into the communistic Flood plain ordinance once thought to be slowly dying of lack of support within the county residents.Dot Donato made a motion to resend her vote from April 23rd mtg. Which ended the flood plain debate, and it was seconded. Here are a list of the names of the people that voted to reappoint the original subcommittee on the flood plain ordinance, ( ring leaders- Frank Deserio, Charles Newton, Alan Eldridge Dot Donato, Paul Otto,) Jeff Judd, those that voted against it, Darrell SHORT, Carol Bosley, and our high dollar county attorney George Shanks sat by and watched it all happen. The flood plain subject was never on the agenda to be talked about, as well it shouldn’t have been as it is in the hands of the Board of supervisors , it is clear that there was a pre meeting to the public meeting and this was staged , taking advantage of the fact that the chairman of the commission was not there, The well respected Johnny Woodward was attending a relay for life meeting and this is the kind of behavior that is displayed when someone is not there to hold there hands. I have inquired into this matter and what happened at this mtg. will not be upheld as it is not legal , this is just another example of hidden agendas and special interest groups at work here in local government wasting tax payers time , energy and money instead of doing something productive with there time. Mr.Turner,I like most page county citizens are very upset and frustrated at our county gvt,but feel powerless.I still don't understand how they got away with using a company that was not legal to do our reassesments.When I went to dispute my reassesment I was treated like a second class citizen and told it was in line or even lower than other reassesments.When I pointed out that my lot had quadrupled,he said maybe that was a little high and they would reassess it.When I got the new one guess what?Nothing changed.What a joke.I have a degree in planning and zoning and worked in another city and county as zoning inspector and mapper and I can tell you this county is a complete joke.Except it isn't funny.I want to help repeal our tax increases and know where the money has gone and is going.I am pissed.Sincerely,Pissed.

Our county really needs your expertise. We have a Comprehensive Plan that is Incomprehensible, does not address the Virginia Code, and a Board of Supervisors that has lost touch with the citizens needs and desires. Please start coming to the Planning Commission meetings. There is going to be a new Zoning Ordinance Subcommittee, and it will need citizen volunteers to help with it.
Also, Page County Watch is going to keep dogging on this budget thing until we have it figured out, and will post everything here. Stick with us. Keep coming back and blogging.
The Supervisors have started saying in their meetings that the tax increase will not be enough. They will need more in two years, more when the schools are finished. At the same time, they are trying to keep business out of here and growth corraled, so that the tax base won't grow.
The only way to get more taxes is going to be to get more people in here to spread the taxes over. This is a big deal, a big issue, and we have to do our homework, research what is going on here.
And fix it.

Even if you choose not make yourself known, it's o.k. Any contribution you can make will be appreciated. The reach of the PCW website is growing weekly. There aren't a lot of bloggers but it is reaching many people throughout the county. The anger at the county's governing body is rising as more and more people are becoming aware, believe it or not, by tennis shoe net and word of mouth.
You are not alone in your frustration. Give Jim Turner a call. He is a straight shooter no BS guy.
